ADB Support to Strengthen Microfinance Ecosystem in Asia

download-61-253x183download-61-253x183The Asian Development Bank (ADB) signed a USD 1.5 million equity investment agreement with Micro-Credit Ratings International Limited (M-CRIL) this week. The investment will boost M-CRIL’s resources, support its existing operations in India and Myanmar, and help it expand its activities in other emerging countries, including Cambodia, Indonesia, Nepal, and the People’s Republic of China. 

In assisting M-CRIL meet accreditation requirements in India, ADB’s investment will help the company to develop a knowledge-based pathway for strengthened regional integration, with India potentially emerging as its key analytics hub.

Social Performance Task Force Webinar: Indicators to Identify Early Signs of Clients Stress

SocialPerformance400x129SocialPerformance400x129Please save the date for the next webinar organized by the Social Performance Task Force (SPTF) Outcomes Working Group.  The webinar will take place on Thursday, 23 February 2016, at 10h00 (EST) / 15h00 (GMT).

The subject of the webinar will be indicators to identify early signs of clients stress, particularly client over-indebtedness. The webinar will feature two speakers:

  • Bobbi Gray, of Grameen Foundation, will provide an overview of work that she has done on this topic, which has also been informed by the work of independent consultant Anton Simanowitz. Additionally, Bobbi will share some suggested indicators that a financial service provider could monitor to identify early signs of client stress.
  • Caitlin Scott, of Friendship Bridge, will share a game that Friendship Bridge developed and has had its clients play to understand how clients respond to financial stress, and to identify behaviors that could be early signs of over-indebtedness.

Cameroon: DID Maintains Its Support for Rural Enterprise Development Managed by Youth - A Project Financed by IFAD

IMG 6450IMG 6450DID will extend into 2018 its participation in the Youth Agropastoral Entrepreneurship Promotion Program in Cameroon (PEA-Youth) conducted with financial support from the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) at the United Nations.

Launched in 2015, this program is aimed at supporting the development of profitable enterprises managed by young rural entrepreneurs aged 18 to 35 through sustained access to financial and non-financial products adapted to their economic activities.
